Eszter Sümegi // Prima Donnas + 2 Heroes

The year 1993 proved to be a lucky one for Eszter Sümegi  . It was then that she received her diploma from the Academy of Music, took an exam as Tosca, won the first prize at the Pavarotti Singing Competition in Philadelphia, and made her debut at the OPERA. She immediately appeared before the Budapest audience in the title role, as Mimì in La Bohème,  revived by  Sándor Palcsó Jr. This first title role was followed by many at home, and Sümegi grew before our eyes into the leading soprano of the theater. Her repertoire consists exclusively of major roles: after taking possession of Italian heroines, Wagner figures gradually followed. The crowning glory of her oeuvre was perhaps the delicate female figures of Richard Strauss . Of course, the name of Eszter Sümegi is well known abroad as well. She has performed in many major cities from Vienna to Paris to Toronto, and even, as the Shulammite of the  Queen of Sheba, she has taken the good name of forgotten Hungarian opera and her own noble art to New York and Tel Aviv.
