João Cabral is a member of the young generation of contemporary Portuguese photography. Through his lyrical black-and-white images, he presents Portuguese landscapes, cities, and people. His ongoing photographic series Cold Land, Warm Land focuses on the Trás-os-Montes region in northeastern Portugal—a mountainous area defined by strong contrasts and unpredictable weather.

The people portrayed in these images live within this landscape and were encountered by the photographer during his journeys. Faces, moments, and encounters come together as a visual ode to the mountains, to nature, to light, and to the joy of photography and of discovering the country he lives in and to which his roots belong
