Szabó Máté Sextet, vendég: Drippey Máté
2026-04-30T18:00:00.000Z
Following his most recent duo concert with Máté Drippey, Máté Szabó once again attempts to expand the scope of his musical expression by drawing on each other’s musical worlds. With this approach, the ensemble—which at times expands to a septet—creates space for musical processes to unfold.
The members of the ensemble first met during orchestral rehearsals and concerts at the Academy of Music. In this mutually inspiring environment, the possibility of creating a unique, shared sound soon became apparent—one that develops not only from individual performances but also from collective attention and reactions. This experience inspired the bandleader to develop a repertoire consisting of his own compositions written specifically for this ensemble.
The foundation of the sextet’s music lies in present-moment thinking—both within and beyond the themes—and in the live shaping of form. The framework of the pieces leaves room for spontaneous musical decisions, dialogues, and a shared sense of time, where influences from classical, jazz, folk, and contemporary music appear as part of a constantly evolving, personal language.
The concert will be a snapshot of this shared sound. A musical process in which composition and improvisation are naturally intertwined, and where the form is not necessarily predetermined, but emerges from the musicians’ attentiveness and the intensity of their ensemble playing.
The concert was presented as part of the UNESCO International Jazz Day Festival 2026 program, with support from the National Cultural Fund of Hungary (NKA).
