Schedule

The Győr Ballet's performance is a dance theatre adaptation of one of the most famous romances in world literature, Anna Karenina, staged by Seregi and Harangozó Prize-winning choreographer László Velekei. The choreography, based on Tolstoy's classic work, focuses on Anna, a tragic woman whose passionate love, struggles and anticipated downfall are translated into the language of dance.

In 1872, Tolstoy witnessed a young woman throw herself in front of a freight train in a fit of jealousy. The sight of the dead, mangled woman depressed the writer for a long time. He reworked his work eleven times before the final version was written, which elevated Anna to the status of one of literature's greatest heroines.

Velekei is a great connoisseur of the female psyche, and his oeuvre is regularly choreographed to explore the motivations of self-destructive, failed female souls. The story of a successful, universally respected woman, Anna has it all when one fateful day she meets the handsome young military officer Count Vronsky, who is on the brink of a brilliant career. The married woman, longing for a full life, for love with a capital L, is whirled by her passion for her young lover until the tragic end. When their eyes meet for the first time, Anna's life is sealed.
