Maurice Ravel: Bolero
"If desire, then Bolero"
According to an international music survey conducted 20 years ago, the Bolero sound is the most likely to spark our imagination. It is a melody of smouldering sexuality, unrelenting and drifting. The idea for the work came from the dancer Ida Rubinstein, who commissioned the work 95 years ago from Ravel, and its first choreographer was a woman, Bronislava Nijinsky, sister of the famous Vaclav Nijinsky.

The virtues of the musical interpretation of this plot, which is about a sense of duty, a yearning that represses and a jealousy that leads to murder, are the effective presentation of deep emotions and dramatic clashes, the kineticism and the Spanish temperament. The figure of Carmen has almost become a symbol of the frivolous woman: beautiful but a dangerous seductress, she throws her love around with too light a hand.
Bernarda Alba's house
in the "Andalusia of tears"
Garcia Lorca's last work, Bernarda Alba's House, subtitled "a drama of women in the Spanish villages", is a critique of the social constraints that crush individual happiness. Through the fate of a grieving widow and her daughters, Lorca captures the sultry atmosphere of repressed passions.

National Dance Theatre
On 15 February 2019, Budapest's unique new cultural arena opened its doors: the new National Dance Theatre in Millenáris Park. The building, equipped with the latest theatre technology and featuring unique architectural solutions, offers two theatre halls and a chamber hall for dance lovers, as well as rehearsal rooms for professional dancers. The foyer of the building will also become a community space open to visitors to the park, giving Millenáris the opportunity to become even more part of the capital's bloodstream.
