The guardian of the boundaries of male friendship has been keeping an eye on James and John for some time. He reports that at first they were just ordinary neighbours, then drinking buddies, but then something happened that made it impossible to categorise them. They do weirder and weirder things together:

They rescue baby birds in the woods, insult kindergarten teachers, throw apple corks at fashionable men, steal lifts from old women, disrupt church weddings, take part in psychological experiments, wipe out bowling alleys and even give oil-slick massages.
