Akira (1988)
Decades have passed since the outbreak of the Third World War and the massive explosion that destroyed Tokyo. By 2019, the city had been rebuilt, but Neo Tokyo had become a city of gangsters, terrorists, religious fanatics and biker gangs, ravaged by civil war.
Schedule
One such gang, the Capsules, is led by 16-year-old Kaneda. The youngest member of his gang is Tetsuo, who is constantly teased by the other gang members. The boy is always trying to prove his mettle, and on one such occasion he is captured by armed men who take him to a laboratory where he is subjected to all kinds of tests.
When he is released, Tetsuo changes: he becomes aggressive, in pain and has terrible visions. He realises that he has acquired new abilities, and can kill people with a single gesture. And all of this is somehow connected to the mystery known as Akira...
Bem Cinema
In January 2016, the 108-year-old Bem Cinema will reopen its doors to the public, in a new way never seen before in Hungary: as a cinema of cult and classic films (no harm!), or as the educated French say (if you know your English): as a "repertory cinema".
