"The most beautiful dream of my life, for the sake of Young Siegfried, I must finally finish the Nibelung plays; The Walküre has taken so much out of me that I must allow myself this pleasure. [...] Since I have never in my life really felt the heavenly bliss of love, I must erect a monument to the most beautiful of all my dreams, which from beginning to end is completely filled with the feeling of longed-for love", Wagner wrote to Franz Liszt in 1854. The work was first performed in Bayreuth in August 1876, at the premiere of the complete tetralogy. 140 years later, the story of the fearless hero is staged again by Géza M. Tóth as the next part of the Opera's new Ring cycle.
Hungarian State Opera
The Hungarian State Opera House is the only theatre in Hungary with a large company, specialising in operas and ballets. The building is one of Budapest's most important 19th century monuments. It was built in neo-Renaissance style according to the plans of Miklós Ybl. The richly decorated interior was designed by renowned Hungarian artists, including Mór Than, Károly Lotz and Bertalan Székely.
