XXI MittelCinemaFest: DANTE

September 1350. Giovanni Boccaccio is commissioned by the city of Florence to deliver ten gold florins as symbolic compensation to Sister Beatrice, daughter of Dante Alighieri, a nun at the Santo Stefano degli Ulivi convent in Ravenna. Dante died in exile in 1321, while his fame spread everywhere thanks to the popularity of the Divine Comedy. The last twenty years of his life were spent in very difficult circumstances, constantly on the run and seeking refuge in various noble courts. Boccaccio follows part of Dante's journey from Florence to Ravenna. He stays in the same monasteries, the same villages, the same castles, the same libraries, and his questions and the answers to them are the basis for a reconstruction of Dante's life, which he has given us the opportunity to discover.
