Dark / New Wave year starter

Durian (CH) and Cold Contrast (HU) will perform.

Durian, lead singer of the Swiss duo Karl Kave & Durian, will be joining us to perform some of the best hits from their joint project. Their collaboration came about as a pleasant release from the constraints of lockdowns, but their first spontaneously born material proved so successful that it has since had several sequels. Their music is based on Neue Deutsche Welle, minimal wave, coldwave and other trends from the 80s, but on their latest album they have also taken aim at the dance music of the 90s, transporting it into their own dark synthpop world. Minimalist drum machine beats, icy synth waves, ironic lyrics (which introduce us to the relationship between patriarchy and cucumber salad, or even the Spotify manager and chicken eggs).

The guest band of the evening will be Cold Contrast, a Budapest/Göngyös-based one-man coldwave/darkwave project that has evolved into a full band. Their music has been influenced by influential dark subculture acts such as She Past Away, Boy Harsher, Clan of Xymox and Linea Aspera, and their songs mix elements of Russian post-punk, coldwave electronics and classic gothic themes. According to their own admission, "the project's inception was boosted by the blossoming of the local scene, with Empty Story, Last Wave and many other great bands that have emerged since then". They recently debuted live in Budapest with a great concert, and a successful follow-up is guaranteed.
