Sacred dances and ritual movements intertwine with contemporary dance forms in a performance that explores the purpose of dance in a modern social context. The movement uses the energizing effect of sound as a dynamic element, while pushing the boundaries of tradition and innovation.
Jenna Jalonen continues her exploration of traditional dance with HALO, following her previous piece RING. While RING explored circle dances, HALO continues along this path and delves into sacred dances and ritual movements that are historically linked to attempts to understand and influence nature. In the past, sacred dances have served different purposes: sometimes to achieve abundant harvests, sometimes to ensure victory in warfare. But what is the purpose of dance today, and what rituals does it represent in today's society?
