Lake Tisza, a man-made paradise
The Tisza has meandered through the Great Plain for thousands of years. Ever since man first appeared on its banks, he has been trying to put the blonde river at his service. He has drunk its water, irrigated it, cut it up and levelled it. Fifty years ago, he stopped it to turn it into a big reservoir. Little did he know then that his work would conjure up the ancient world of the Tisza. The river's released water has created a unique habitat. Man built it, nature occupied it. Thus was created a man-made paradise: Lake Tisza. The narrator of the film, Dimitry Lyasuk, takes the viewer by the hand and shows us, through all four seasons, what this special place has become over the decades.
How beautiful we have made it, even though we didn't make it. But it is we who are responsible for it, who can preserve and care for the gift we have received from nature.

The breathtaking nature film was produced on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the birth of Lake Tisza by the Active and Ecotourism Development Centre and Active Hungary. The nature film is a joint production of three well-known filmmakers. Balázs Szendőfi, writer-director, has received numerous awards and recognitions for his work in nature conservation, research and filmmaking. The narrator-actor of the film, Dimitry Lyasuk, is known for his films and environmental work, having produced the highly successful Island of Good Hope, set on Lake Tisza. The film's cinematographer, Zoltán Fehér, has made several nature films, including Wild Water: Aqua Hungarica and Past and Present: Our Waters in the Hands of Man.
