Szaffi
The Gypsy Baron is a cartoon based on a short novel by Jókai, about the love story of two young people in the 17th century.
Timisoara, the last fortress of the Kingdom of Hungary still in Turkish hands, is besieged by the imperial armies, who even blow up its dam. From the fortress, Basha Ahmed flees with the treasures and his infant daughter Sofia. They are joined by Ahmed's good friend, Gaspár Botsinkay, and his young son, Jonás. Before they board a boat for Istanbul, they bury the treasures at the Botsinkay estate. During the escape, little Safi falls into the flooded river. The crying infant is rescued from the water by a mother-in-law, Cafrinka, along with the forest animals.

In Constantinople, Basha Ahmed is executed for the fall of Timisoara, and old Botsinkay dies before he can reveal the treasure's hiding place to his son.
Little Jonah grows up among wandering gypsies. When he hears that the emperor has pardoned the fugitives, he decides to return to Hungary.
First, he appeals to the governor of Timis, the Knight Feuerstein, to make him part of his inheritance. But the knight himself knows about the treasure hidden on the Botsinkay estate, and from now on he and his servant Puzzola try to kill the boy. But their attempts to murder him fail one after the other.
Jonah is disheartened to see his estate shot up and looted. Hungry, he discovers the house of Cafrinka, an old woman who lives on the nearby waterfront, where Sofia-Szaffi, who has grown into a beautiful maiden, lives alongside the reed animals.
The mother has a cat named Safi among the many animals, and Jonah becomes convinced that Cafrinka is a witch who turns the girl-cat into a human or an animal at will.
The old woman tells Jonah that the only way to get the treasure hidden on the estate is to marry. Jonah first looks for his future wife with the neighbouring landlord, the pig trader Lonchar. However, Hogwarts' Arsena, who is also to be married to the knight Feuerstein, turns out the drunken Jonah, who is drunk by Hogwarts.
Eventually, after further complications, Jonah realises that he must marry Safi. The misunderstanding is also cleared up: there is no magic involved, there are in fact two Saffi
