More about the exhibition:
The Esterházy Art Award has been awarded every two years since 2009 by the Esterházy Privatstiftung in Austria. The exhibition of the nominated artists provides a benchmark and comprehensive overview of trends in the young Hungarian art scene. This year, 18 works out of 262 entries were nominated by the international jury. The title of the current exhibition, Breaking the Frame - Making Future, suggests that a striking number of the positions on display break with traditional, "autonomous" image formats and replace them with series, groups of works or spatial installations. The motivations and themes of the artists are very different; the exhibition presents very strong positions, but also reveals vulnerability and nostalgia as a theme.
Ludwig Museum
The Ludwig Museum - Museum of Contemporary Art, located in Müpa, is the first museum in Hungary to exclusively collect contemporary art. In addition to a permanent exhibition of the collection donated by the Ludwigs and a number of temporary exhibitions, the museum aims to raise awareness of the works and their creators through special publications and a variety of art education and art education programmes.
