Zoltán Onagy was born on 27 December 1952 in Budapest. He spent his childhood on the Lókos farm in Nógrád County. He graduated from secondary school, his original profession was printing, master of letterpress and flatbed printing. He was one of the pioneers of online cultural content provision in Hungary: between 2000 and 2006 he worked as the chief literary editor of Terasz.hu, from 2007 to 2012 he was the head of the prose column of Irodalmi Jelen, and since 2013 he has been a freelancer. From 2012 to 2013, he has been published in several magazines, including Élet és Irodalom, Forrás, Helikon, Hitel, Irodalmi Jelen, Jelenkor, Kalligram, Kortárs, Korunk, Látó, Librarius, Litera, Magyar Napló, Mozgó Világ and Tiszatáj. At the beginning of 2015, he launched a subjective world literature review on a community portal, entitled A bőség zavara (The Disorder of Abundance), where he published more than two thousand five hundred articles.

The Open Workshop is a fine place, a place where many different kinds of people can feel at home, which is to say that there is something that is rare and difficult to create, the spirit of the place. This spirit is very sympathetic to me, because it means both that there are shows that interest me and that the occasional stew is okay. And that I'm likely to meet people there who I'm happy to meet, and it's not even out of the question that they're me. Such public (open) spaces are rare in Budapest.
