It was the Age of Aquarius. It was the age of carefree freedom, dance, song, and LSD. But it was also the age of the Vietnam War. The age of pointless military service and senseless, cruel death... A small-town guy gets his draft notice and travels to New York for the draft. Then he sees a beautiful girl on horseback, whom he might fall in love with if there were even the slightest chance they’d ever meet again. His new friends see things quite differently. For the hippies, nothing is impossible: their lives are governed by different laws—ones they’ve made up themselves. This is how the film begins, one that everyone remembers so fondly. The story of Berger, Claude, Sheila, and the others is not just about an era and a generation: it has become a timeless classic. The flower power era is over, but this film continues to convince its viewers, time and again, that there was something in it that will hopefully never fade away.
