Schedule
Yet there are many singers who do not find a role in the works of these masters, but who would gladly sing from their rich vocal palettes. The piano afternoons and matinees are for them, about them, and inspired by them. At selected events of the season, Hungarian singers perform popular excerpts from Wagner’s Ring, selections from songs by R. Strauss, and arias by Verdi and Puccini, all presented with piano accompaniment. And of course, it is only fitting that alongside these programmes devoted to the works of international composers, there should also be an event featuring Hungarian works. One concert pays tribute to Kodály, who plays a central role in this season. Another one traditionally organised in remembrance of Miklós Ybl, architect of the Opera House. Hungarian in every respect – international in standard.
Hungarian State Opera
The Hungarian State Opera House is the only theatre in Hungary with a large company, specialising in operas and ballets. The building is one of Budapest's most important 19th century monuments. It was built in neo-Renaissance style according to the plans of Miklós Ybl. The richly decorated interior was designed by renowned Hungarian artists, including Mór Than, Károly Lotz and Bertalan Székely.
