Their hero, **Babaróka** (Little Fox Babe), is three years old at the beginning of the story and is about to start kindergarten—or, as the Foxes call it, “cub care.” What will it be like to spend a whole day at cub care without Mamaróka? Will Babaróka make friends? And how do you make friends in the first place?
Judit Ágnes Kiss’s *Babaróka* books have been hugely successful among preschool children and their parents in recent years. The stories follow the everyday life of a fox family with human qualities—a family that is special even in its ordinariness. Their hero, Babaróka, is three years old at the beginning of the story and is about to start nursery school—or, as the Foxes call it, “cub care.” What will it be like to spend a whole day at cub care without Mamaróka? Will Babaróka make friends? And how do you make friends in the first place?
The charming and humorous stories each centre on a familiar conflict and its resolution: anxiety in a new group, playing with older children, a tantrum in the shop, family friction, moving house, or the birth of a younger sibling. The tales take seriously the simple yet complicated questions of early childhood, while showing how the world slowly opens up for a little fox.
