Frigyes Karinthy is twenty-five years old when, under adventurous circumstances, he elopes with his great love, the actress Etel Judik, a mother of three. They spend half a year hiding from her husband's wrath in Berlin, then, having placated the husband with a substantial sum of money, they marry in Budapest. From his term of endearment "bogárka, bogaram" ("little beetle, my beetle"), the writer gives his beloved the name Boga. She will fall victim to the Spanish flu epidemic that breaks out after the First World War. After his wife's death, Karinthy writes this in his diary: "I feel as though a tumor formed in my brain when she died…" Nearly two years later, the grieving man — taking a prank phone invitation seriously — meets Aranka Böhm, a physician who is still a married woman at the time. The passionate Aranka, who conquers every man, has already been enlivening the everyday life of their marriage with her emotional storms for a decade and a half when Karinthy — who has never stopped thinking of Boga with undying love — must undergo surgery for real in 1936. Hovering between life and death, the writer wrestles with two women at once: with Boga in his imagination, with Aranka in reality…

Both performances were directed by Tamás Szirtes, who was elected director of the Madách Theater in 2004. Under his direction, the Madách Theater embarked on a path that has resulted in a successful musical theater of outstanding quality. World-famous musicals line up in his program, which are usually in large blocks, so-called they are staged according to the en suite playing order, and each performance remains on the show for years. The basic aim of the theater is to give the viewer the same experience even after 10 years as at the premiere.
