~ The Grand Mexican Warlock has been as rare as a white raven in recent years, and this trend has continued this year as well; they will play their only fall concert on September 17 at Pontoon.
The Grand Mexican Warlock was formed in 2009 with members well-known from the Hungarian rock-metal-hardcore scene of the 2000s, and quickly burst onto the scene. With their intense, energetic concerts, they not only conquered the stages of Hungarian clubs and festivals but also toured regularly throughout Europe and released four studio albums, the most recent of which, titled *Eulogy*, came out in October 2023.
They took a hiatus between 2019 and 2021 but have been active again since then, though they perform live extremely rarely.
Categorizing their music has always been a challenge, but if you can imagine a blend of The Mars Volta, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Refused, and Queens of the Stone Age, you’re already closer to grasping the “warlocks’” vision. Monumental sounds, trippy psychedelia, heavy riffs, Fender Rhodes—that’s Grand Mexican Warlock.
