While painting and sculpting, David Lynch tells stories in his own studio about his childhood, his years as a painter in Philadelphia, and his early stages in becoming a film director.
The narration follows Lynch's childhood years in Idaho and Virginia, and then presents his art studies in Philadelphia, where he fundamentally shaped his visual world in the dark urban environment.
The storytelling is accompanied by archival family recordings, early fine art, and Lynch's own narratives. The autobiographical recollection accompanies the director until the preparations for his first feature film, Eraserhead, showing the transition between fine art and filmmaking.
