A Labor Day edition of the awards ceremony. - The axe strikes, opens up, and creates space within structures believed to be solid. The axe is a tool in the hands of action.
It is both a celebration and an art project, aimed at pausing for a moment to appreciate and give thanks for the visible and invisible energies that support and energize the field of contemporary dance. Bring cash!
The event is a celebration of the present, featuring both internal and external support, entertainment, and a raffle with valuable prizes and surprise guests. A celebration to preserve the shrinking cultural space, a communal experience.
The established creators, building on the themes of their Game Changer 1.0 Lábán Award-winning performance, founded this unique award in 2022 to highlight the work of people, institutions, and initiatives that are actively present in the field of contemporary dance but rarely seen. This year marks the fourth edition of the event.
The game changer is the long-term, process-based collaboration of the Molnár-Vadas-Vass creative trio. A platform through which they explore the possibilities and impossibilities of change. They strive to blaze new trails for themselves, creating and claiming space to reconnect. From the creators: “As individual artists, we chose not to form a company. We see ourselves as a creative community where there is free flow, allowing for individual projects and the development of our own voices. At the same time, a collective approach is important to us—nurturing and sustaining each other’s artistic and personal growth. We are creators who love to reflect on ourselves and each other; we seek new models, formats, and methods to experience the freedom of creation. For us, it is important to explore and transcend the boundaries of dance and performance art, or to rediscover traditions.” (Csaba Molnár, Zsófia Tamara Vadas, Imre Vass)
