Schedule
The feature film about the legendary band Led Zeppelin was released worldwide in 1975 (it premiered in Hungary in 1978), having been filmed two years earlier at Madison Square Garden in New York. The film not only presents viewers with an abridged version of the double concert (the full length was over two and a half hours), but also includes brief profiles of each band member (as well as their manager). In fact, it’s safe to say that the band was at its peak during this era. There was an impressive harmony and cohesion among the four musicians (Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, John Bonham). You can see and hear their captivating improvisational interludes, which elevated them to the ranks of the greatest bands of the 1970s.
On January 22, at the A38 Ship, one of Hungary’s most popular tribute bands, Lead Zeppelin, will attempt to recreate this seemingly impossible concert. The band consists of well-known musicians: Zoltán Sipeki—guitar (Zorán, László Dés, Gábor Presser), Gábor Vörös—bass (ex-Ossian, Piramis, Fahrenheit), Ferenc Gerdesits—drums (Quimby), and the lesser-known but very talented Roland Kormendi on vocals.
Everything changes, but “The song remains the same.”
Location
A38 Ship
Converted from a coal-mining ship, the A38 is easily Budapest's most unique concert venue. The belly of the ship has been home to a wide range of live and electronic music for almost 20 years, and when it's full you can feel the rhythmic movement of the partygoers making waves in the Danube. Foreign acts often refer to it afterwards as their favourite club.
