Paula Sanz will spend a week with us in Budapest. On Saturday, that week reaches the dancefloor at Toldi.
Originally from Murcia and now based in Milan, Paula is a DJ, producer and co-founder of Dropzi Records. Her music keeps the physical pull of groove close to the detail and restraint of Detroit techno, moving between hypnotic repetition, sharper vocal moments and a brightness that never softens the force of her sets.
We are very happy to welcome her as the central guest of this ROOTZ - not for an isolated stop, but as part of a longer encounter with her work, her ideas and the person behind them.
The night begins with Dorota and BELLITTA playing back to back. Dorota works with stripped-back forms, deep repetition and the quieter pressure of hypnotic techno; BELLITTA brings a more restless vocabulary shaped by proper techno, acid, trance and the records of the '90s and early 2000s. Their opening set will be a conversation between those two instincts.
Atashi follows with a vinyl set drawn from the functional, groovy side of his collection: music chosen for what it does in the room, gradually tightening the focus before Paula takes over.
After Paula, Bencsama brings the night into its final part without treating genre as a border. His sets draw freely from techno, hardgroove, pop and his background in theatre and performance, following the dancefloor without giving up surprise.
The coherence of the night will come from the order of these choices, not from asking five DJs to sound the same.
And yes, it will be a rave: low light, close bodies, sweat, and no reason to look at the clock.
