A Gang of Their Own / Bande à part | FRENCH NEW WAVE #1
A BAND APART
(Bande à part – in French with Hungarian subtitles)
black-and-white, subtitled, French film, 95 mins, 1964
directed by: Jean-Luc Godard
starring: Anna Karina, Claude Brasseur, Danièle Girard
***Not recommended for under-12s!***
This time, Godard has ‘taken apart’ and reassembled the gangster film and heist genres – in his own distinctive way, of course. Franz and Arthur, two lads who are fans of gangster films, are captivated by the charming Odile, particularly when she mentions that there is a pile of money hidden in her aunt’s house. The lads plan a heist together with the reluctant girl. *The Gang of Seven* – with its iconic dance scene and the chase through the Louvre – is a classic of the French New Wave that is at once sombre and yet playful.

Bem Cinema
In January 2016, the 108-year-old Bem Cinema will reopen its doors to the public, in a new way never seen before in Hungary: as a cinema of cult and classic films (no harm!), or as the educated French say (if you know your English): as a "repertory cinema".
