The island of Honshu, towards the end of the chaotic, seething Muromachi period, in the XV. century: Ashitaka, the last scion of the glorious Enishi clan, who have lived in exile for centuries, lives peacefully with his people in a mountain village.
One day, a raging, wounded monster attacks his subjects, who curses his killer after the young prince's fatal shot. Ashitaka sets out to solve the beast's mystery and get rid of the fatal curse: he soon finds himself in the middle of a devastating war, with an iron smelting community clearing forests on one side and Animal Demons protecting their homes on the other, led by the beautiful Princess San.
