The Launch of Tamás Fábián’s Debut Novel: Bravúros mutatványok, amiket senki se látott

We’ll discuss this book about young adulthood, life in Budapest, rural identity, and self-expression, and explore the broader social and political context surrounding these themes.

What does it mean to be a young adult in Hungary today? And what does it mean to be an independent journalist at a time when traditional media consumption is changing, breaking news arrives through social media, and a single post or video can reach hundreds of thousands of people in a matter of moments?

Meanwhile, independent and investigative journalism are gaining renewed importance, with journalists and editors becoming celebrated heroes. What is it like to experience this transformation from the inside? How has the profession changed over the past 15–20 years? What role did the independent press play in the change of government, and what role does it play today?

What will become of opposition identity in a changed political landscape? Is it possible to remain open-minded, sensitive, and well-informed while protecting ourselves from the harmful effects of politics and public life?

And since we’re at FREEDOM: what role does culture play in all of this? Why do we need spaces, creative hubs, and communities? And what happens to us when they disappear?

We’ll talk about the book and anything else that comes up along the way. Come join the conversation — questions are welcome!

Copies of the book will also be available for purchase at the event.

Please note: The event will be conducted in Hungarian.
