About the Play
A charming spa resort in a bygone era, in a charming town. Everyone is on holiday, relaxing and enthusiastically celebrating His Majesty’s birthday. A young widow and a dashing captain fall in love—they go horseback riding, dance and spend time together by the pool, while the mother eagerly plays bridge with her suitor. Naturally, the mother always wins.
But can life really be so carefree for those who belong to the highest echelons of society? At what point does social standing take precedence over emotions? And what happens when it suddenly turns out that nothing is quite what it seems—and generations of family effort could crumble in a single moment?
Ferenc Molnár’s brilliantly crafted comedy is full of emotion, surprises, petty tragedies and mysteries. It may even turn out that the internationally wanted gentleman swindler is not the person the observant audience catches lying most often…

Thália Theatre
In the Thália Theatre, the focus is on light-hearted entertainment, in the spirit of the "Pest Broadway" of Nagymező Street. The Thália Winter Garden, inaugurated in 2019, is a little more serious, while the Arizona Studio is home to independent productions. In 2017, the capital reaffirmed its confidence in the management, with Gábor Kálomista applying for the post of managing director and Géza Bereményi as an advisor.
