Schedule

As part of the Fringe program, launched in 2024 to support the mission of the Hungarian House of Music, we provide emerging musicians at the beginning of their careers, amateur bands, street musicians, music schools, and music workshops with the opportunity to perform at various locations throughout the House. In the “On Stage!” series, talented, up-and-coming musicians and amateur music groups at the beginning of their careers perform every summer season, and one of them is awarded a prize and given another opportunity to perform the following season.

The 2025 “On Stage!” award winner is the Alacalufe Band.

Alacalufe is a musical ensemble dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and sharing the diverse richness of traditional Latin American music. Their vibrant repertoire takes the listener on a journey through the continent’s most distinctive rhythms, making every concert a musical journey that connects cultures, eras, and geographical regions.

Their artistic vision draws on the musical roots of Latin America, blending genres such as merengue, samba, festejo, cumbia, mambo, and cha-cha-cha, among others, to create an authentic and energetic performance. This fusion of styles is not only entertaining but also a tribute to the traditions that have shaped the region’s popular music.

The band combines traditional instruments—such as the conga, maracas, Peruvian cajón, güira, and acoustic guitar—with elements reminiscent of the sound of the great Latin bands of the 1950s, such as the saxophone, electric guitar, and bass guitar, to create an even richer soundscape.

Alacalufe’s music is a call to celebrate Latin America’s diverse and warm-hearted identity. Every performance is crafted to be an immersive experience, so that both knowledgeable audiences and new listeners alike feel welcome, can dance, connect, and become part of the continent’s living culture.
