Lukács Miklós Cimbiózis Trió

“The magic of the musical world of Miklós Lukács and the Cimbiózis Trio lies in the fact that it does not grant the listener the mindless pleasure of genre labelling,” wrote music historian Gergely Fazekas about the ensemble. Cimbalom player Miklós Lukács is undoubtedly one of the most exceptional figures on the Hungarian and international music scene: his training in classical music has enabled him to engage deeply with both jazz and contemporary music. His virtuoso playing style and constant experimentation have led to the discovery of previously unknown sounds on his instrument. The finest examples of this can be heard in the music of the Cimbiózis Trio, founded in 2013, which – with an unchanged line-up featuring double bassist György Orbán and drummer István Baló – has since grown to become one of the most original ensembles on the Hungarian jazz scene. Alongside the unique combination of instruments and the constantly expanding repertoire of original compositions, the fact that neither the bandleader nor the members shy away from experimentation and exploring new avenues plays a significant part in this. “I composed for this trio with the aim of creating a chamber-music-like sound, where every musician has an equal say. That is why I chose the name Cimbiózis: the symbiosis between us is key,” said Miklós Lukács.
