Every experience comes at a price. Human nature is a mysteriously layered tapestry, and this season of *Living Philosophy* examines it thread by thread. It seeks to answer the question: What does it mean to be human today, in the 21st century?
The second episode of the season, *The Betrayal of the Ego*, explores the difficulties of becoming a man. As children and adolescents, we develop an image of what it means to be a man: strength, freedom, independence, and opportunities. But what happens when the marketing of adult life—which promises endless possibilities—fails, and reality doesn’t live up to this self-image? What remains when the image of masculinity constructed by the ego suddenly lets us down?
