Metrum Trio+: Zene és Felvilágosodás

Metrum Trio+ is one of the formations of the Metrum Ensemble, winner of the Artisjus and Culture Crane awards; its current members are Anna Rákóczy (flute), Lajos Rozmán (clarinet) and Balázs Kántor (cello). Over the past ten years, the ensemble has taken part in the creation of numerous memorable music-theatre performances. Their speciality—unique among chamber musicians—is that they perform the musical works from memory, without sheet music, so the playing unfolds freely even under truly unusual circumstances (for example, unusual lighting conditions). Various co-creators often join the Trio for individual performances: this time, joined by violist Kata Koppán and with the participation of jurist and sociologist Zoltán Fleck, they bring the world of Enlightenment-era Europe closer, reflecting on the relationship between music and everyday life in the mirror of the society of the evoked era (or even of our own days).

The concert program—Mozart’s Bach arrangements, Adam Kondor’s Mozart arrangements, trios by Joseph Haydn and Handel, as well as Haydn’s miniatures originally written for contemporary mechanical devices—together with Zoltán Fleck’s artistically sensitive reflections, form a kind of dialogue between music and the spoken word, also allowing space for spontaneous associations of ideas, inspiring the audience, in the spirit of the Enlightenment, to further reflect on the topics raised. One of the creators’ main motivations, by their own admission, is that nowadays, when artificial intelligence floods us with a multitude of automatically generated texts, it is especially necessary for representatives of different cultural fields to share substantive knowledge with one another and with the audience.
