Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro), a Vietnam War veteran, works the night shift as a taxi driver in New York City. Withdrawn, violent, and misanthropic, he is unable to process the horrors of the war. He wards off insomnia by driving, yet he cannot escape his obsessive thoughts. He also struggles to relate to women; his first date with Betsy (Cybill Shepherd), a campaign worker for a senator, ends awkwardly. He fails to persuade Iris (Jodie Foster), a child prostitute, to leave the streets and return to her parents.
He finds the violence surrounding him increasingly intolerable—a force he cannot combat with words, only with violence of his own. He buys weapons, determined to embody the image of a relentless, solitary hero for one final act...

Bem Cinema
In January 2016, the 108-year-old Bem Cinema will reopen its doors to the public, in a new way never seen before in Hungary: as a cinema of cult and classic films (no harm!), or as the educated French say (if you know your English): as a "repertory cinema".
