Spike and the Gimme Gimmes Return to Budapest

Spike and the Gimme Gimmes are known for their high-energy punk-rock covers; over the past 30 years, they’ve put their own spin on Motown, country, and Japanese pop songs. Following their concert last year, the band is returning to Budapest this fall to make waves at the A38 Ship.

Spike and the Gimme Gimmes (formerly known as Me First and the Gimme Gimmes) features punk legends such as John Reis of Rocket from the Crypt, Joey Cape of Lagwagon, Pinch of The Damned, and CJ Ramone of the Ramones, with Spike Slawson rounding out the lineup. At concerts, other artists occasionally step in to fill in when someone is called away by other commitments, such as Jay Bentley of Bad Religion or Jake Kiley of Strung Out.

This supergroup, which plays punk covers, has been active since 1995; during that time, they’ve released 12 albums and tried their hand at nearly every genre, from Motown and country to show tunes and Japanese pop songs performed in Japanese. This band of seasoned veterans can turn any song into a punk anthem, and their concerts are high-energy and unforgettable. The band already proved this to the audience at Dürer Kert last year, and having caught the Hungarian vibe, they’re returning this year to bring their crazy world to us once again for one night—this time on November 29 at the A38 Ship.

Tickets go on sale on April 17 at 11:00 a.m. on the www.livenation.hu and www.funcode.hu websites.

Location

A38 Ship

Converted from a coal-mining ship, the A38 is easily Budapest's most unique concert venue. The belly of the ship has been home to a wide range of live and electronic music for almost 20 years, and when it's full you can feel the rhythmic movement of the partygoers making waves in the Danube. Foreign acts often refer to it afterwards as their favourite club.
