What colour is the anxiety? How much collage paper is needed to depict grief? What does the struggle with endometriosis look like on paper? Is one A/4 sheet enough to experience the joy of healing? Can the paint go beyond the contour line if it ends up in a self-harming pattern? What tempera is suitable to express the boundaries of the body?
In art therapy sessions, the goal is not to produce aesthetically pleasing, carefully crafted works of artistic merit from the hands of the participants. The aim is not for the image to be finished and complete, so that anyone looking at it can understand it. There is only one aim: to find a channel for the emotions that have been building up within the artist, to release them without inhibitions or expectations, and to express visually what they may not yet have the words to express. In a word: to heal.

Safespace Budapet is in its fourth year of offering art therapy and relaxation sessions, during which time it has produced nearly 600 works of art on the themes of anxiety, body image, relationships, grief and sexuality. Through art and discussion, group members can understand that, although each person's story is unique and unrepeatable, they are not alone in their problems.
The aim of the exhibition You See and You Seem is to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and to show that creation is for everyone and that anyone can turn to it for a little relief.
There will be accompanying activities at the opening of the exhibition and during its opening hours - more information coming soon. The exhibition is open until 12 June.
