Schedule

Somewhere in Hungary, in a small village, three public workers dig the same trench year after year, talking about the same things day after day.

One of them, Béla, learns that the TV news showed an old classmate, Ferike Herner, whose father was the village policeman when they were children. Béla recalls how a childhood conflict between the two of them grew up and, as he remembers more and more details, he begins to realize that human destinies repeat themselves from generation to generation and are as constant as the same ditch that stretches out before them.

Through the presentation of two timelines, the comic and at times painfully thought-provoking story seeks answers to questions that span from the individual to the whole world: are we in God's hands, or is God within us and thus our destiny?

A film based on the play by János Háy, the popular Hungarian writer, based on a performance by the Ferencváros Pinceszínház, in memory of its director, Enikő Börcsök.
