Kristóf Kelemen: NIKÉ, the statue of our freedom
The headless woman, the poet sitting outside McDonald's and Lenin. One has been demolished, the other has been given a new identity, the third is in question. What they all have in common is that they carry the memory of a city: labour movement celebrations, miners' days, opposition rallies, Tinder dates and tests of courage, or even the spirit of wild capitalism, the traces of a working class abandoned.

The history of public sculptures is usually surprisingly adventurous. They are erected by different powers and then moved or demolished as a result of changes of government or regime. Yet they all share a common fate: the moment they are erected, it is decided that sooner or later remembrance will be replaced by oblivion and they will all become ruins. From a distance of 200 km, Kristóf Kelemen presents the sculptural history of his hometown Pécs in a subjective guided tour, which is fascinatingly interwoven with the events of Hungarian history and his personal life. The production, born in a virtual presence, combines documentary theatre, city walks and influencer videos. At its core are questions of community, power and collective memory.
