Food is a Right

Before closing time at both markets we ask the vendors to give us the vegetables and fruits they were unable to sell and would throw away. You don’t need to bring anything, the market coordinators will provide big bags for the collection. When we are done one of our cargo guys will transport the vegetables back to Auróra where we will sort them. Please follow the event because we will post info here about who the market coordinators are. If you know you can join us for the collection, please leave a comment. Saturday actions usually last approximately 2 hours.

•●• SUNDAY •●• Community Cooking

Start: 10:00 AM

Location: Auróra, 1084. Budapest, Auróra street 11. (during winter and bad weather we are inside the bar, during summer and good weather we are outside in the garden behind the blueish/greenish iron gate at the corner – just pull it, it will be open!)

We cook a 3 course vegetarian/vegan meal from veggies & fruits we collected the previous day for the homeless and the people in need. Volunteers are also welcome to have lunch together after the food is done. We have all the tools needed so no need to bring anything with you. You can join any time during the day and stay as long as you can, but the sooner you arrive the more tasks you can help with.

Main tasks: mostly preparing the vegetables and fruits (peeling and cutting); sorting the plastic food containers; washing dishes, tidying up, portioning the meals into plastic containers, dealing with the compost.

The food distribution starts at 4:00 PM at Boráros square where a 5-7 person team goes together, and the portioned meals are transported by cargo bike (or car). If you only wish to join the distribution part, please arrive in Auróra by 3:00 PM.

•●•DONATIONS•●•

We accept donations every Sunday between 10.00 and 15.00 at Auróra. Our movement works thanks to the support of the community. If you wish to help, we gladly accept the following items: spices in bigger amounts, oil, salt, pasta, rice, canned veggies, dish soap, sponge, scrubber, bin bag, candies-bakery food in bigger amounts (in already portioned condition!). We always accept normal/bigger sized plastic food containers, if they are already washed and have closeable tops. We cannot use glass jars though.
