From 17 May, an exhibition of the works of one of the most important contemporary artists, Sean Scully, will be on show at the Hungarian National Gallery. In 2020, the Museum of Fine Arts - Hungarian National Gallery hosted an exhibition of Sean Scully's life's work, who subsequently donated significant works to the Museum of Fine Arts. The Hungarian National Gallery now presents these works.

In 2020, the Museum of Fine Arts - Hungarian National Gallery has organised a highly successful retrospective exhibition of Sean Scully's work entitled Travelling Through. After the exhibition, Scully donated several major works to the Museum of Fine Arts: a monumental painting, Reversed, specially reworked for the Budapest exhibition, 50 colour prints based on iPhone drawings, a series of ten aquatints entitled Landscapes and Cloaks, and three of his latest pencil drawings.

The Hungarian National Gallery is the largest public collection documenting and presenting fine art in Hungary. The permanent exhibitions of the museum, located in the Buda Castle Palace complex, showcase the most important works of Hungarian art, including masterpieces by Master MS, Pál Szinyei Merse, Mihály Munkácsy, József Rippl-Rónai and Dóra Maurer.
