Nude sculptures from the turn of the century
Cabinet of the permanent exhibition 19-20th century
As a new thematic section of our permanent exhibition, we present some of the most characteristic types of nude sculpture from the turn of the last century to the mid-1920s, from our collection. The exhibition includes nude sculptures by Ö. Fülöp Beck, Zsigmond Strobl Kisfaludi, Miklós Ligeti, Ödön Moiret, József Róna and Szilárd Sződy. The artistic term originally denoted the study of the figure, posture and movement of a naked or clothed model, and gradually came to denote the naked human body.
Schedule
Models were used to create the nude in the Middle Ages, and initially a male model was used for the female nude. The use of the female model became common after 1500. Drawing from nude models was not widespread in Hungarian art education even in the 1890s, although it was already common practice in academies in France.
