A sevillai borbély
Gioachino Rossini
THE BARBER OF SEVILLE
Opera in two acts, in Italian, with English and Hungarian subtitles
Schedule
It is safe to say that one of the most beloved and most performed works in comic opera literature is Gioachino Rossini's The Barber of Seville. It cannot be missing from the OPERA repertoire. The 2023/24 season will see the revival of Csaba Káel's previous production, which was originally performed in Szombathely in the summer of 2016 and then at Müpa Budapest, but only for a few performances. The director, who has already delighted audiences at the Opera House, the Erkel Theatre and the Eiffel Workshop Theatre with numerous productions, places this work in a silent film setting, magnifying the humorous situations in his light-hearted and endlessly witty music. The production also seeks to dust off the centuries-old performance traditions and present the opera in its original freshness. "This slight modernity of this 19th century work was much needed, it made it much more enjoyable and accessible," reads one viewer review. The performance will be performed at Margaret Island and then at the Opera House from next season.
