NICE SUMMER DAY
The musical A Beautiful Summer Day is set in the 1970s in Bácsszentmária, a construction camp near the Yugoslavian border. At the heart of the musical, which is full of humour and irony
teenagers who - like most of the people back then - "volunteered" for a summer job.
Antal Tóth, the camp commander, is the head of the tomato-processing branch of the Soviet-Hungarian Friendship TSZ, and his deputy is Jenőné Kovács, aka Aunt Panni, the Russian teacher.
Juli, the daughter of Aunt Panni, the KISZ secretary, falls in love with Péter Varga, a freshly graduated high school student, who
who is studying to be a sociologist and whose father defected after '56. The two young lovers, who were brought up against the opposition
are not looked upon favourably by many...
The other residents of the construction camp are also teenagers from Pest, who on these beautiful summer days do what all teenagers do
They work, have fun, fight, make up, fall in love, but most of all they sing and dance - to Neoton's still popular hits.
