Take a guided tour of our exhibition of the life's work of Margit Anna, an outstanding figure of 20th century Hungarian art!

Anna Margit is a founding member and prominent representative of the European School. It is difficult to classify her works as belonging to any one artistic movement; a significant part of her oeuvre is most closely related to surrealism and expressive vision. The exhibition is the first retrospective of Margit Anna's work, and will explore new aspects of her oeuvre, such as the relationship between self-portrait and mask; her interpretation of femininity through new female roles influenced by the Bible, mythology and mass culture; her treatment of the trauma of the Holocaust and the persecution of the Jews; her experience of 1956; the influence of folk art, kitsch and pop art; and, in almost all forms, the eternal problems of the suffering and survival of the human condition.

The exhibition includes works by Margit Anna and her contemporaries who influenced her art, above all her husband Imre Ámos and Lajos Vajda, István Farkas.

Guided tours are available with the temporary exhibition ticket and the guided tour programme ticket (1500 HUF).
