Olive (Abigail Breslin) comes from a long line of fools and buggers. For them, every day is an adventure, and they rarely get through it without disaster. Her father, Richard (Greg Kinnear), is the world's most brilliant career counsellor, while Uncle Frank (Steve Carrell) is a derailed literature teacher. Only the grandfather (Alan Arkin) is always cheerful, but some illegal plants have something to do with it. As fate would have it, all the oddballs take a minibus to sunny California to enter Olive in a beauty contest called The Family's Little Treasure.
