Spring Dedication

2023-03-24T18:30:00.000Z

The Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates the season of reviving nature with Igor Stravinsky's Spring Sacrifice, a work for large orchestra. The ballet will be preceded by a truly early, experimental Haydn symphony as the 'overture' to the concert, and Bartók's Viola Concerto will also be on the programme, with the distinguished French violist Antoine Tamestit playing the solo. The composition, unfinished at the time of Bartók's death, has been reconstructed by several composers, and this evening the version published by Péter Bartók will be performed.

Schedule

Major orchestras tend to perform the late London Haydn symphonies, as these are the closest to today's symphonic ideal. This time, Gilbert Varga has chosen an early symphony of only three movements, untitled, to open the concert. Béla Bartók was unable to complete his Concerto for viola da gamba, yet it has become a very popular piece in the repertoire.
