"KIRAKAT" Exhibition: Research-Based Art Exhibition
In the research-based exhibition titled KIRAKAT, 11 contemporary artists reflect on the concept of the mannequin, which simultaneously represents both the living body and the inanimate object, the model and the object. How has the mannequin, the shop window dummy, transformed into an iconic figure in the fashion world across different media, from fashion magazines to store windows and even the metaverse?
The artworks explore the meanings of the mannequin and similar terms through concepts such as cyborg, bionic form, posthuman, and idol, revealing their connections to societal body image and consumer culture. The aim of the exhibition is to rethink and reframe these concepts, which are key figures in our everyday spaces and visual environments. During the exhibition, the mannequin appears as an interface or connection between "species/beings/genres/genders" linking contemporary representations while pushing the boundaries between natural and artificial, reality and fantasy, human and cyborg.
On September 20, join us for a special outdoor exhibition, where public space becomes an artistic environment, offering the opportunity to engage directly with the displayed works and the urban surroundings. Balancing between real and unreal forms of bodies, materials, and fabrics, we will explore how mannequins shape our visual culture.
The exhibition will be opened by Zsolt K. Horváth.
Location:
District V, Károlyi Street 16, 1053, Petőfi Literary Museum Courtyard and Vestibule
During the event, refreshments will be provided courtesy of Vinikli Wine Bar. 🍷
The exhibition is supported by Dessin Design and special thanks to the support for Deák Erika.
