Fairy Ilona and Orphan
There have been many adaptations in the past centuries about the difficult love of the fair maiden and the youngest prince, the obstacles that come between them and the happy, tear-jerking ending. The recently published musical version of Jean-Pierre by Melinda Balogh and Tamás Bősze clearly stands out from this long line: the musician duo filters the classic tale, which is well-known to us all, through Hungarian folk music traditions, while at the same time providing a spacious world music background.

One of the most, if not the most, treasured pieces of Hungarian humanist literature is Albert Gergei's history of beauty, the poignant love story of the adventures of Ilona the Fairy and Prince Argyelus in the sky and on earth. In fact, the original text, with its rather adventurous fate, is well known even to those who have never read it: the story is one of the main sources of inspiration for the school compulsory reading of Tongor and Elf. It was not only the literary world that was inspired by this extremely rich reception: a whole series of courtesan tales and love stories were born from the lips of the people.
