Schedule

Judit Rita Rabóczky's latest sculptures are busts without bodies, masks without heads. Iron sculptures welded from found scrap metal, household iron objects and discarded tools. The seven busts represent an ambitious and arrogant commanding attitude, the sixteen masks some weak human qualities. Constructed from pincers, traps, knives and chains, the headgear is a descendant of the shame masks that were common in the 16th century, worn by those who committed minor crimes and often put on trial. The curious sculptures in the exhibition "Beaten in Iron" pose poignant questions, painting a grotesque picture of unchanging human nature. The busts and masks are, of course, fictional figures, and any correspondence with contemporary Hungarian reality is merely coincidental.

The masks are accompanied by a series of photographic performances in which the iron sculptures are placed on living heads. The artist asked friends and acquaintances to don the "shameful" masks.

The exhibition is open Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 6pm until 14 April.
