language picnic
❓ What is a "gluten-free" language picnic?
✅ Picnics are a chance for participants to discuss language topics and their social implications in a casual and playful way that can be of interest to everyone - i.e. topics that are also covered on the gluten-free linguistics blog. For example, there have been discussions on misunderstandings, on pronouns and pronouncing, on words that express our Hungarianness, and before that, there was a discussion on our consumption habits.

Schedule
- 17:30-19:00
❓ How does it work?
✅ A picnic can be seen as a systematic reflection together in a public space, for example around a café table - it is no coincidence that we were inspired by the genre of the philosophical café. Accordingly, the majority of our sessions so far have been held in the Three Raven Café, where coffee and tea are served alongside alcoholic beverages and lighter snacks. The conversation is facilitated by a moderator along a pre-determined thread. The starting point is usually a thought-provoking question to which participants can bring examples and observations from their own language experiences and conversations with others in response. It has become our practice to discuss the topic of the day's picnic for about 60 minutes twice after the introductions, but those who are really into the field trip can stay until the end. So the aim of the picnic is for participants to enrich themselves by hearing other people's perspectives. You shouldn't expect great insights into the world from these occasions, but you can expect to exchange ideas with nice people and gain insights into the views of others.
❓ Do I need any previous knowledge or qualifications to participate?
✅ Not at all. Everyone has language experience and expertise that can be both relevant and important. But what is definitely needed is an openness to the ideas of others.
