Batushka (PL)

The past two years have undoubtedly been all about Batushka in the European extreme music world, as not since Behemoth has a band been able to attract so much attention from fans, the industry and the secular eye on the Middle East map. Litourgiya, the only album to date, is a mature statement not only musically but also formally: the lyrics, evoking the pravoslavic chants, have replaced the subject with the self in every divine revelation with an early church stylization, while the musical instruments also have a sacrality thanks to the choirs and epic song structures. This was just enough to make it impossible for Russian Orthodox radicals to attend Batushka's planned concerts in Russia, which were sold out in advance, and it only drew more attention to the production, which imitated Orthodox ritual in its concerts and soon found itself on the posters of Europe's leading metal festivals. In 2018, we can expect nothing less at the A38 Ship: the menacing atmosphere of black metal, the ominous overtones of doom, the theatrical orthodox choruses, the blasphemous lyrics and the band's distinctive stage presence will guarantee one of the most harrowing sessions of the year.

Location

A38 Ship

Converted from a coal-mining ship, the A38 is easily Budapest's most unique concert venue. The belly of the ship has been home to a wide range of live and electronic music for almost 20 years, and when it's full you can feel the rhythmic movement of the partygoers making waves in the Danube. Foreign acts often refer to it afterwards as their favourite club.
